I've bought probably a dozen Passports over the years and none has ever failed. But B&H shipped these in an oversized box with NO padding. They rattled loose in the shipping box all the way from NY to CA. I can only hope that the delicate drives don't show damage later on.The Passports rate 5 stars if they keep working. I use WD drives to carry business and leisure files when I travel and the capacity of this one means I can reduce the weight of carrying two or three lots of storage. I have had no problems with WD drives which seem to be extremely reliable and I believe my new 4TB drive will continue to give me the reliabiity I need. Although slightly more expensive than some other makers' products I still feel they are value for money have already recommended them to friends. I returned it in exchange for another disk, and I had the same problem. However, I found a way around this problem. Apparently one should not format these drives by the latest Mac software 10.13 (!!!), only by the older versions 10.12 or older. This is what I did. After that, it works without any problems on my Mac running High Sierra 10.13. Perhaps WD people know it because at their website they discuss how to format these drives using older versions of Mac software, but I they did not explain that one should not format them using the latest Mac software.
