I have the same problem with my dimension 8100 and my Sandisk Cruzer Micro USB 4.0 GB flash drive. I have USB 2.0 ports on the dell, a powered USB 2.0 hub and a Dell LCD monitor with USB 2.0 ports and the launch software will not install.
The system recognizes the drive and I can copy cut and past to the drive. I shut down my firewall and other software but the launch software will not install. I contacted sandisk and they had me uninstall and reinstall the drive, edit the registry and I still have the problem. I tried it on another non dell PC with windows XP and as soon as I plugged it in it installed the software no problem. At this point Sandisk told me to contact Dell.

As soon as I had posted this message I discovered that if I disabled my machine's internal CD/DVD through either 'safely remove hardware' in the system tray or disabling through:device manager' control panel/system/hardware/device manager/DVD CD-Rom drives, that the U3 software launched as advertised.
